TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION (Haters) LP/CD
To me Brutal Truth were one of the best grindcore bands of all time, because they were really creative and sometimes very innovative. They offered more than all the dull goregrind shit. That is among other things because of the fact that Brutal Truth were able to write real songs and they could control their instruments. It is especially Richard Hoak's furious, jazz-inspired drumming style that provides the band with the appropriate technical refinement. Approximately eleven years ago, he formed TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION and continues to bring you that intelligent grind sound that doesn't let you down one bit.
'Haters' is their third full-length and yet again they flex their musical muscles. What pleases me in particular is that TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION are strongly rooted in hardcore punk, but they integrated further influences into their high-energy sound. There are splinters of thrash and death metal as well as a bit of heavy metal and hardrock. Of course, this record has plenty of blast beats, but also grinds heavy. Despite the slower moments, 'Haters' is a long, ultra-intense, super fast maelstrom composed of scorching riffs and super-precise rhythms.
Each of the musicians does a great job, but I must cite the drumming of Richard Hoak as the prime motivating factor here. There is no doubt that he is still one of the best drummers in the genre and beyond. And no matter how short the tracks are on 'Haters', they are always thoughtful and well-structured. TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION set the bar very high and their insistence on first-class quality is very difficult to reach for most grindcore bands. As a bonues, the wonderfully clear production makes this album stick out from the usually cruddily produced grind stuff. Just buy it and get your face shredded!
