UGH! (Terminus) MCD-R
That's a real interesting release from this German band, based in Munich. UGH! was planned as an open project, but the actual line-up has proven it's stability so UGH ! has become a real band, although there are still working together with guest-musicians. "Terminus" contains five tracks, that a very different from each other. At first, this is no "stoner" or Doom band and it's not easy to describe their music. While listening to this highly interesting disc, there are so many influences I can hear like Ulme, Godflesh or Unsane but UGH! have their own unique sound. In songs like "Swell" there's a Blues / Jazz vibe and the ending of this track reminds me to Tom Waits. The opener "Plushy Pylons" is very close to early Godflesh, while a song like "Soulsucker" would fit into the Amphetimene Reptile label program.
"Deep Red River" sounds again like a mixture between Tom Waits and Godflesh. This is the perfect soundtrack for the next David Lynch movie. Last track "Terminus" is a straight sludge doom-laden rocker. The bass is ultra-heavy and the rough vocals of Christian are giving the song the right atmosphere. It's very good to see, that there are still musicians in Germany, who were giving a shit about musical boundaries. What about a tour with Bohren & Der Club Of Gore? This must be a quite intensive evening. Like I've said before, it's not easy to describe this band because there are so much small details in their songs, that will discover with every listening. I really like "Terminus" and if you're open-minded enough you must order this outstanding release.
